Citrix überführt CloudStack zu Apache und gibt OpenStack auf

Citrix hat seine OpenStack Distribution Olympus aufgegeben und wird sich stattdessen auf sein Open Source Betriebssystem CloudStack konzentrieren, was nun unter die Apache 2.0 License fällt.

Im Rahmen der Ankündigung teilte Citrix zudem mit, das CloudStack die Amazon APIs weiterhin unterstützen wird, da sie glauben, dass dies entscheidend für den Erfolg von Cloud-Plattformen ist.

Zudem wurde Citrix CloudStack 3.0 ebenfalls unter die Apache 2.0 License geführt und Citrix plant eine kommerziell unterstützte Distribution von Apache CloudStack anzubieten.

Neben Engine Yard, RightScale, CumuLogic, Puppet Labs, Hortonworks, Opscode, Equinix, Juniper Networks und ScaleXtreme unterstützen, nach Angaben von Citrix, 50 Software und Service Anbieter das CloudStack Projekt. Zudem wird CloudStack in mehr als 100 Produktionsumgebungen eingesetzt.

Citrix wird sich allerdings nicht vollständig von OpenStack abwenden und bspw. weiterhin den Citrix Hypervisor auf OpenStack unterstützen.
